Main Features

Easy Installation

This Netgear Arlo set gives you 2 HD cameras for smart home security. Arlo alerts you instantly when it detects motion or sound, sending you either a notification or email. It then invites you to watch a short video that it's taken, letting you see exactly what's triggered the camera to start recording. If you suspect that there's been a break-in or other emergency, you can tune into the live stream to keep an eye on how things are unfolding. This combination of alerts, videos, and the live stream helps you to react quickly and effectively during an emergency or break-in.

All advantages at a glance:

  • Access the live stream from anywhere
  • HD Camera (720p resolution)
  • Free cloud storage (7 days)
  • >No wires or cables
  • Fully waterproofed

What we love about these HD cameras is how flexibly they can be used. The cameras are battery powered and completely wire-free, so you don't have to take the nearest outlet into account when placing them. What's more, each camera has an average battery life of 4-6 months. You can simply leave it down and know that it's doing its job. The Arlo cameras come with IP65 certification, allowing you to both use them indoors and outdoors. The camera even continues to work during heavier rain.

Product Information

  • Base station: In addition to the two Arlo cameras, this set also comes with a base station which connects your home Wi-Fi network with your cameras. It simply connects to your router via the included Ethernet cable.
  • Hard to see: Outdoor cameras are often easier to see due to wires connecting them to the internet or to power. Netgear has designed the Arlo to be 100% wire-free, making it even harder for criminals to detect.
  • Keep track of everything: By default, you can use up to 5 different Arlo cameras in your home. You can thus keep track of everything that's happening across different parts of your home. The Premium and Elite plans allow you to expand this to 10 or 15 cameras, respectively.
  • You're in control: Want to switch off monitoring for a while, or even only have the cameras record during specific conditions? Netgear gives you the option to completely switch monitoring off, make a schedule for monitoring, or have your physical location control monitoring.
  • Interactive timeline: The Arlo cameras store the videos they've recorded over the last 7 days in an interactive timeline, where you can view, download or share them. You can expand this to 30 or 60 days with one of Netgear's premium plans.
  • Ask Google or Alexa: Households with the Google or Alexa home assistants can ask for the video stream from a specific room to be called up on their phone or tablet. If you receive a motion or sound alert, you can call up the video feed without even lifting a finger.

The Netgear Arlo - 2 HD Cameras (VMS3230) in action

Before it arrives (System requirements) We've all been there. Our new piece of tech finally arrives, only for it not to function within our homes. Below you'll find a clear description of everything you need for Arlo cameras to function: The first thing you'll need is a connection with at least 1 Mbps of download speed. Most households should fulfill this requirement. If you're unsure, either contact your Internet Service Provider or perform a home speed test using a mobile app or website. The Netgear Base Station needs to be connected to a router in order to connect to your Wi-Fi network. The router must have an available Ethernet port that you can use to connect the Base Station to the router.

Placing your Arlo cameras

In order to get the best sensor performance, get clear video and keep the camera from being detected by others, it's important that you place the camera according to certain guidelines. If you plan to simply place the camera on a flat surface, it's best to do so in a location where you also have other objects (e.g. a bookshelf, a shelf in your kitchen). This will make the camera much harder to detect. Placing the camera alone will make it more obvious to the eye. If you plan to mount the camera on a wall, it's best to do so against a neutral background (i.e. a white or neutrally painted wall). Placing it against a colorful surface will make the white camera pop, making it far easier to detect. You may wish to make the camera visible in order for it to be used as a deterrent, although this may result in the camera being deactivated in the event of a break in. Netgear recommends that you install the camera at a height of roughly 7 feet above the ground. An optimal installation height is important when it comes to getting quality video and ensuring that the sensors are able to detect motion properly. This ideal installation height can be best achieved by making use of the wall mount. A further option for placing your camera is by getting the additional 4-pack of the magnetic wall mounts. You can install these 4 mounts in different locations around your home, and change the position of the camera. This is an ideal solution for customers who want to place their cameras in one location during the day and another during the night.

Expanding the capabilities of your system

There are two upgrades available for the Netgear Arlo cameras. The first upgrade focuses on increasing the length of time which video clips are saved for, while the second even unlocks the ability to record absolutely everything that the camera records. Here's a breakdown of the upgrades available for the Netgear Arlo: The Premier Plan unlocks the ability to store up 30 days of cloud recordings from 10 different cameras. This is available for $9.99 month/$99 year. For even more cloud storage, the Elite Plan gives you 60 days of cloud storage and allows you to install up to 15 cameras in your home. The Elite Plan is available for $14.99 month/149$ year. A Continuous Video Recording plan makes it possible to record everything that camera sees. For $9.99 per month/$99 per year (per camera), you can get 14 days of 24/7 CVR each month. $19.99 month or $199 year (per camera) gives you 30 days of 24/7 CVR.
