Arlo Q is a security camera that records in full 1080p HD. It attaches directly to AC, meaning it can monitor your home 24/7 and you won't have to move the camera to a recharging station or disable certain features in order to save power. The camera has a 2-way intercom, allowing you to interact with whoever is being recorded - great for checking in with family or for interrupting a break-in. The Arlo Q starts recording as soon as it detects sound or motion, meaning it can alert you about suspicious activity before someone has even stepped into frame.

All the advantages of the Arlo Q at a glance
  • Simple setup

  • 1080p HD Video

  • 7 days of cloud storage

  • Live streaming

  • AC powered

  • 2-way audio

  • Night vision

What we love about this HD Security camera is the amount of customization available. You have four options when it comes to motion detection - a simple on/off button, automatic scheduling, and geofencing (i.e. the camera will only record when it detects you and your family not at home). You can also adjust the video resolution on the camera from 240p to 1080p - ideal for homes whose connections still aren't quick enough to support HD footage. Motion zones let you establish an extra sensitive area within the frame, a great feature for protecting valuables like computers and security vaults.

Product Information

  • Always on the look out: Arlo Q comes with built-in night vision, allowing it to monitor the area it's recording when it's dark. It'll capture valuable footage of any home intruders who break-in at night, without them knowing that they're being recorded.
  • Powerful components: Aside from its max 1080p resolution, the camera has a 130-degree field of view with an 8x digital zoom. It can capture virtually everything that's happening in the room and zoom into the smallest detail.
  • 7 days of free cloud storage: Unlike some home security camera, the Arlo Q comes with limited free cloud storage. You can view, download and share any clips recorded within the last 7 days. This can be upgraded through one of Netgear subscription packages.
  • Alexa and Google Assistant: Voice-activated assistants make us feel like we're truly living in the future. You can ask the two voice assistants to call up the video feed from a particular room in order to see what's going on.
  • Monitor your whole home: The default package allows you to place up to 5 different cameras in your house and view them within the same app. Netgear's subscription package expands this to 15 camera - ideal for businesses who want to use the Arlo Q for security purposes.
  • Connect it up: Arlo Q is compatible with both IFTTT and SmartThings, allowing you to use the camera to trigger other devices within your home. For example, you can use IFTTT to turn on your Philips Hue lights when motion is detected by the camera.

The Arlo Q - 1080p HD Security Camera in action!

Setting up the Arlo Q is simple

While some home security cameras have set up processes that can even require you to hire a professional, the Arlo Q can be set up in four simple steps:

  1. Plug in the Arlo Q to the AC
  2. Download and set up the Arlo app
  3. Press the triangular Sync button situated on the side of the camera
  4. Scan the QR code on the app screen

Once you're finished, you can get to monitoring any part of your home you wish.

Right where you want it

There a few guidelines to be aware of when it comes to placing your new add-on camera.

Netgear has given you several options when it comes to placing the camera right where you want it. The simplest option is to simply place it down on an even surface. The camera is small with a neutral design, so you can place it on any surface without it being noticeable.

Our favorite mounting option on the camera is its magnetic base - this lets you snap the camera onto metal surfaces in your home. A great idea for using this option is attaching it to your fridge - great for households who have a cookie thief in their ranks.

More storage and more cameras for your home

Arlo's free data plan lets you store clips from the last 7 days, as well as use up to 5 different cameras in your home. Although this is more than enough to keep your home secure, some households may want to install even more cameras in their home, store clips from an even longer timespan, or even record absolutely everything that goes on in their home. Here's a summary of the upgrade's available from Arlo:

  • Arlo's Premier Plan allows you to store up 30 days of cloud recordings from 10 different cameras. This is available for $9.99 month/$99 year.
  • The Elite Plan gives you up to 60 days of cloud storage and allows you to use up to 15 cameras in your home. The Elite Plan is available for $14.99 month/149$ year. .
  • For ultimate security protection, you can have your camera store all the footage it records in the cloud with a Continuous Video Recording plan. For $9.99 per month/$99 per year (per camera), you can get 14 days of 24/7 CVR each month. $19.99 month or $199 year (per camera) gives you 30 days of 24/7 CVR. These plans are booked in addition to either the Premier or Elite plan.
