"tink is your smart home expert!"
The Eve Door & Window is a wireless contact sensor that fulfils one purpose at its core – detecting whether a certain door or window has been opened. However, using this as a trigger for Eve Scenes is where things start to get interesting. For example, you could have your Eve Thermo reduce the heating once it detects a window has been opened. Battery powered operation allows you to place the device without having to think about the closest electrical outlet. Apple HomeKit compatibility also means that you can ask Siri about the current status of doors and windows around your home.
All advantages at a glance:
Although the Eve Door & Window has been designed to be used as a wireless contact sensor for conventional doors and windows, its cordless design means you can get really creative. Those with kids could give their cookie drawer that extra bit of security to make sure that no one’s been having any secret second helpings. Its minimalist design also means it can function well as a home security accessory that can warn off intruders without creating an eyesore for your interior design.
Despite its slightly intimidating appearance, setting up the Eve Door & Window is surprisingly straightforward. Included at delivery are 4 spacers that make calibration easy. The quick start guide takes you through both the installation of the Eve app and adding in your new devices.
The Eve products have been designed to work exclusively with iOS device, so you’ll need an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch (with iOS 11.2 or later) in order to use the Eve Door & Window. Owners of an Apple Watch can also use this to interact with the Eve products, allowing one to set up Scenes directly on the smartwatch itself.
Automating the behavior of the device and accessing it remotely will require a home hub in the form of an Apple TV (tvOS 11 or later) or an iPad (with iOS 11 or later). Remote access allows you to use the Eve Door & Window as a first defense against home intruders, as it will continue to deliver information about the status of your door or window even when you’re far away from home.
Even without the home hub, the device still works well as part of your larger Eve network. For example, you could place it on the front door and have it function as a trigger for activating your home entertainment system connected to an Eve Energy. This way you can come home to a house filled with music every day, from the moment you step in the door.
Included spacers make proper calibration as easy as can be. When the physical set up is completed, all you need to do is download the Eve app to complete setup.
Both the device and the secondary components are sturdy and well capable of handling the rough and tumble of modern home life.
Monitors the status of doors and windows. This status can be used to trigger the behavior of other smart devices in the context of Eve Scenes.
Ensure that the sensors aren’t installed too far apart from each other to guarantee a stable connection. Using the provided spacers should solve this problem.
Clean and slick, reminiscent of Apple design. It won’t stick out no matter where you place it in your home.
A useful expansion to your smart home at a fair price. Particularly good purchase for people who already own or are interested in products from the rest of the Eve range.
Use the guide included at delivery. This will provide a clear overview of the installation process.
It sometimes happens that the Eve Door and Window doesn’t start properly after the first installation, even after the batteries have been inserted. To address this, simply remove and reinsert the batteries repeatedly until the device switches on.
Your device must support HomeKit trigger in order to get additional notifications about changes in the open/closed status of your doors and windows (available with iOS 9+).
The Eve App makes it possible to add in and use HomeKit capable devices from other manufacturers. The status of door and windows can thus also be seen using HomeKit capable apps from third party sources.
